Matt Byrnes joined PetSmart in 2007 and currently serves as the Senior Vice President, Merchandising. In this role, he leads the company’s merchandising, proprietary brands, sourcing and quality teams.

Matt has held various leadership roles during his tenure with PetSmart, including time in store operations, supply chain, growing our proprietary brands business, merchandise planning and global supplier management. He also spent several years in Asia supporting PetSmart’s global sourcing efforts. 

First Job: Matt’s first job was a janitor at a grade school in his hometown of Cincinnati. 

Education: He earned a bachelor’s degree in decision sciences and a Master of Business Administration from Miami University.

Hobbies: Matt and his wife have a son and are proud pet parents to Tegan, an Australian Shepherd.

Board Involvement: Matt currently serves as the Vice Chairman on the Board of Directors for the Valley of the Sun United Way. 

He also is the co-executive sponsor of StartSmart, PetSmart’s Associate Resource Group focused on assisting early-career associates with tools and connections to excel in their career journey.
